Abstract
This presentation intends to provide an overview of the user perspective in dictionary research. It will include both a theoretical and a practical part. On a theoretical level, we will address issues such as the following: reasons for dictionary use, features of monolingual learners’ dictionaries, reference skills required for receptive and productive dictionary use, dictionary use as a learning strategy, and user training. On a practical level, we will discuss ways to develop monolingual dictionary skills in the context of teaching English and Greek as foreign languages.
