The Joint Postgraduate Studies programme (J.P.P.S.) “Conference Interpreting and Translation” was introduced in 2003 and refounded in 2018 through a Presidential Decree (Government Gazette 3774 vol. B’ 03-09-2018). It is run by the Schools of English Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, German Language and Literature and Italian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy and the School of Political Science of the Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The organisation and the structure of the programme are regulated by the Postgraduate Studies’ Law (Government Gazette 2307/B/13-06-2019).
The aim of the programme is to train interpreters and translators of modern languages to a fully professional standard and to develop knowledge and research in the field of Translation Studies.
In 2014, the translation course was awarded the “European Master’s in Translation” (EMT) quality label, which was also renewed in 2019.
The J.P.P.S. is run by the Special Interdepartmental Committee (S.I.C), which consists of representatives of the five Schools. The Committee is responsible for all subjects, both administrative and academic. The members of S.I.C. are Katerina Nicolaidis, professor of the School English Language and Literature, Anthi Wiedenmayer, Associate Professor of the School of German Language and Literature, Simos Grammenidis, professor of the School of French Language and Literature, Konstantinos Paleologos, professor of the School Italian Language and Literature, Ioannis Papageorgiou, Associate Professor of the School of Political Science and a representative of the students.
Professor Katerina Nicolaidis of the School of English Language and Literature is the Head and Director of the Programme (knicol@enl.auth.gr).
Associate Professor Anthi Wiedenmayer of the School of German Language and Literature is the Coordinator of the Conference Interpreting Course (antwie@del.auth.gr).
Professor Simos P. Grammenidis of the School of French Language and Literature is the Coordiator of the Translation Course (simgram@frl.auth.gr).

The programme is funded by the Greek state; the course in interpreting is partly financed by the Directorate General for Interpretation of the European Commission (SCIC).
